Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Major ATC System Failure
Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial air traffic control outage grounded all flights.
Every arrival and departure were stopped because of an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.
Some passengers reported being stuck in jets at the stand as the outage continued.
Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays
Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".
That said, ongoing issues are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.
Officials had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.
Root of the Disruption
Officials linked the operational halt to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.
Passengers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the airport as knock-on effects are worked through.
