Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Table
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
